If a Pro-transgender Bill Passes in California, Elon Musk Says He Will Move His Companies' Offices There

Elon Musk says he is moving the offices of two tech companies to Texas because California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law that says public schools can’t tell parents when their children say they are transgender.

California is the first state in the U.S. to pass a law that stops schools from telling parents about transgender students. The law was made to protect transgender children and teachers who might be hurt for defending transgender children.

Musk said on Tuesday that he is moving the offices of his companies, SpaceX, the social media platform X, and the social media platform X. This is because Newsom signed the SAFETY Act into law on Monday.

“Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, Calif., to Starbase, Texas,” Musk told X Tuesday.

Newsom said that Musk told him a year ago that “laws like these would force families and businesses to leave California to protect their children.”

He stated that the X headquarters will be moved from San Francisco to Austin, Texas so that entering and leaving the building will not require “dodging gangs of violent drug addicts.”

Musk also said that he moved from California to Texas, which does not have a personal income tax. California has the highest state income tax rate in the country, at 12.3% for people making more than $698,271, plus an extra 1% for mental health services for people making $1 million or more a year.

Musk’s estranged son Xavier Alexander Musk changed his formal name to Vivian Jenna Wilson in 2022 to show that he was a woman.

Musk blamed “neo-Marxists” for the change and called Wilson a “fervent Marxist” who wouldn’t work with him and hid the fact that she was transgender until he found out from someone else.

Musk said he tried to get in touch with her but failed.

Musk is moving X and SpaceX to Texas, but in 2021, he moved Tesla, an electric car company, from Austin to Palo Alto, California.

He did not say if he would move the Tesla offices back to Texas or not.
