DuPage County, Illinois – A Christmas Eve gathering inside an Illinois hotel room turned violent when one guest allegedly stabbed another man multiple times as he slept, leaving the victim hospitalized with serious injuries, according to prosecutors.
Christmas Eve Celebration Turns Violent
Authorities say Uberclein Vazquez Villareal, 40, was sharing a hotel room with two other men on the night of December 24 while they were celebrating Christmas Eve. According to a press release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the victim later laid down on an inflatable bed to sleep when Vazquez Villareal allegedly began harassing him.
Prosecutors allege that the situation escalated suddenly and without warning.
Attack Allegedly Happened While Victim Slept
Court documents state that while the victim was lying on the inflatable bed, Vazquez Villareal allegedly attacked him with a knife, stabbing him multiple times in the upper chest and torso area. The blade involved in the assault was reportedly approximately 4.5 inches long.
At the time of the attack, the third individual in the room had briefly stepped out to take a phone call. When he returned moments later, prosecutors say he discovered a gruesome scene with blood throughout the room and immediately called 911.
Police Respond to Disturbing Scene
According to authorities, responding officers were first alerted by a man hiding behind the hotel’s front desk, who told them that someone had been stabbed.
Police then proceeded to Room 345, where they allegedly encountered Vazquez Villareal standing in the hallway outside the room with his hands covered in blood.
After taking him into custody, officers entered the room and found the victim lying on the inflatable bed suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency medical services transported the injured man to a local hospital for treatment.
Charges Filed and Suspect Held Without Bond
Vazquez Villareal has been charged with armed violence and aggravated battery, serious felony offenses under Illinois law. Prosecutors confirmed that he is currently being held without bond at the DuPage County Jail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for January 20, 2026.
Prosecutors Condemn Alleged Violence
In a statement addressing the case, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized the severity of the alleged crime.
“The type of violence alleged in this case is shocking and will not be tolerated in DuPage County,” Berlin said.
Victim’s Condition Remains Unclear
As of the latest update, prosecutors have not released information regarding the current medical condition of the victim. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to review evidence and witness statements related to the attack.
Conclusion
What began as a Christmas Eve celebration inside a hotel room ended with a man hospitalized and another facing serious felony charges. Prosecutors say the case highlights a disturbing act of violence that unfolded in a matter of moments, leaving lasting consequences for everyone involved.
