Harris Co. detective arrested for allegedly pointing gun at teen during apparent road rage incident

According to court filings, a career investigator with the Houston Police Department pointed a gun at a youngster during an apparent incident, and now he is in a jail cell.

According to court documents from May, 48-year-old Jason Ganaway was angry with the teen driver for reportedly cutting him off on FM 529 close to Hwy 99 in Katy. The teen said authorities that’s when Ganaway, who was identified in the records as a 16-year veteran and detective with HCSO, aimed a revolver at him.

Ganaway denied pointing a gun at the adolescent when detectives interviewed with him, but court records showed that his version of events was inconsistent.

For instance, Ganaway first claimed that the two did not speak to one another, but in a statement given to investigators on the evening of the event, he said that he might have raised his hands and asked, “What’s up?”

Additionally, Ganaway initially told detectives on the arrest paperwork that he could not see the teen well because the windows were up, but he later remembered his hairstyle.

Ganaway altered his tale once more when questioned about whether he had spoken to the teenager, claiming that he may have asked, “What the (expletive) is your problem?” Ganaway’s discrepancies were highlighted by the investigating officers when he started to exhibit aggressive behaviors, such as sweating and raising his voice.

The teen’s recognition of Ganaway’s gun, which he detailed in great detail, was the most significant contradiction, according to the court filings. Although Ganaway acknowledged owning the firearm, he didn’t use it that day.

The court records mention surveillance footage that helped clarify the events and supported the juvenile driver’s version of events.

The allegations against Ganaway now include Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. As of this writing, KPRC 2 has not received a response to our request for a statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
