Atlanta, GA – A Georgia man has pleaded guilty to killing a 77-year-old grandmother after she discovered him trying to steal her SUV from inside her garage. The plea was entered just minutes before his murder trial was set to begin, bringing a painful case back into the spotlight for the victim’s grieving family.
What Investigators Say Happened Inside the Buckhead Home
According to police, Eleanor “Ellen” Bowles, 77, encountered Antonio Brown, 26, inside the garage of her Buckhead home at around 11:30 a.m. on December 10, 2022. Brown had broken into the gated community and was attempting to steal her Lexus SUV when she confronted him. Authorities said Brown stabbed Bowles repeatedly before fleeing the scene in her vehicle.
Bowles was later found on the floor of the garage by her adult son, who had arrived for a holiday visit and immediately called police.
Evidence Prosecutors Prepared to Present
Courtroom reporting revealed that prosecutors were ready to show jurors a strong set of evidence connecting Brown to the crime. This included surveillance footage capturing Brown driving the victim’s SUV away from the property and DNA found on the murder weapon.
Investigators also linked Brown to a robbery at a nearby liquor store shortly before he arrived at Bowles’ home, adding further weight to the case.

On Monday, Brown entered a non-negotiated guilty plea, accepting responsibility for the killing. His plea came just before jury selection was scheduled to begin.
