Grand Prairie Man Shoots Adult Son, Kills Wife, Then Takes His Own Life During Domestic Argument

Grand Prairie, Texas – A late-night domestic dispute in Grand Prairie ended in a deadly shooting that left a woman dead, her husband deceased by suicide, and their adult son seriously injured, according to police.

Officers with the Grand Prairie Police Department responded to a family violence call around 10 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 1600 block of Avenue B, just west of Mountain Creek Lake, authorities said.

Argument Escalated Into Gunfire

Investigators said a 62-year-old man was arguing with his wife inside the residence when their adult son attempted to intervene. During the confrontation, police said the father shot his son in the face.

After the initial shooting, authorities said the man killed his wife inside a bedroom of the home.

Despite being wounded, the son was able to escape the house, run to a neighbor’s residence, and call 911 for help. Police later confirmed the son is expected to survive.

Officers Encounter Gunfire While Entering Home

When officers arrived, they believed the armed man was still inside the residence and that his wife might be alive. Police said they were unable to make contact with the man.

Because of concerns for the woman’s safety, tactical officers forced entry into the home. According to police, officers were immediately met with gunfire and returned fire as the man retreated further inside the house.

No officers were struck directly by gunfire during the exchange.

Victims Found Inside the Home

After securing the scene, officers reentered the home and discovered the woman dead inside a bedroom from apparent gunshot wounds. The husband was later found dead in a bathroom from what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police also reported visible bullet damage to a vehicle parked in the driveway, consistent with the exchange of gunfire during the incident.

Officer Injured by Ricochet

Authorities said one officer was hospitalized for minor injuries after being struck by ricochet gunfire. The officer has since been treated, and no other officers were injured, police confirmed.

Identities Withheld, Investigation Ongoing

The identities of the man and woman have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.

The investigation remains active. Under departmental policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer-Involved Shooting Team has taken over the independent criminal investigation into the incident. At the same time, the Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards is conducting a separate administrative review.

Domestic Violence Awareness

Police officials emphasized that domestic disputes can escalate rapidly and urged anyone experiencing family violence or witnessing warning signs to seek help immediately. Resources such as local law enforcement, crisis hotlines, and domestic violence shelters can provide confidential assistance before situations turn deadly.

Conclusion

What began as a family argument ended in tragedy, leaving one woman dead, a man deceased by suicide, and a son recovering from serious injuries. Authorities say additional details may be released as investigations continue.
