Washington, Olympia – The next few years will see the introduction of zero-emission buses into the fleets of school buses at Washington schools.
By the Climate Commitment Act (CCA) of the state of Washington, public schools in the state will be transitioning to electric buses as a result of a bill that was signed into law on Saturday by Governor Jay Inslee, who is a Democrat.
According to the CCA, the state has the intention of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases by 95 percent by the year 2050. The California Clean Air Act (CCA) is cited as a motivating factor in the bill language for the new zero-emission bus law. This law is intended to transition school buses to more environmentally friendly vehicle technologies.
The governor of the Evergreen State will receive a report in June 2025 that has been developed by policy experts within the state. This study will provide specifics regarding the transition to zero-emission bus fleets throughout the entire state.
One of the grant programs that will be administered by the Washington Department of Commerce will be used to administer some of the funding for the bus enhancements.
It is highly doubtful that a financial push for electric school buses will take place on a state level until the governor’s office receives the report that was submitted in June of 2025. On the other hand, any school district has the option of purchasing electric buses using their own resources from their budget.
