Georgia Uber Driver Allegedly Shoots 16-Year-Old Girl After Waffle House Argument

DUNWOODY, GA – A 38-year-old Georgia man working as an Uber driver, Meredith Grundy, has been arrested after allegedly shooting a 16-year-old girl in a Waffle House parking lot following an argument over a ride. The teen sustained gunshot wounds to her back and legs and is currently in critical but stable condition at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, according to police.

Incident Details

The incident occurred early Sunday morning when Grundy responded to a call at a Waffle House in Dunwoody. Five teenage girls were reportedly waiting for a ride, but Grundy told them that there was not enough room or seatbelts in his vehicle to transport all passengers safely.

According to the Dunwoody Police Department, an argument erupted between Grundy and the teens. Police allege that during the confrontation, one of the girls threatened to kill Grundy and struck him in the face, prompting him to allegedly retrieve a firearm and shoot the 16-year-old multiple times.

However, in a press release, police noted that the other four teens denied any threats were made before the shooting, indicating a potential dispute over what actually transpired prior to the alleged gunfire.

Victim’s Condition

The 16-year-old victim was transported immediately to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with gunshot wounds to her back and legs. As of Tuesday, the teen remained in critical but stable condition, highlighting the severity of the incident and the potential risk to her life.

Arrest and Charges

Meredith Grundy was arrested by Dunwoody Police Department officers and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. According to jail records, he posted bond, though the specific date was unclear. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Uber’s Response

Following the allegations, Uber confirmed Grundy’s connection to the platform and issued a statement to WANF, stating:
