McDuffie County, Ga. – A 77-year-old Georgia man who pleaded guilty to shooting his wife in the head while she slept has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after admitting to the murder.

On the morning of Sept. 7, 2022, James Wilson III called 911 to report that he had shot his 75-year-old wife, Virginia “Sue” Wilson. When McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall arrived at the scene, he found James Wilson lying on the ground outside his home, holding a gun to his chest.
“I done made a mess, I killed her,” Wilson reportedly told Sheriff Marshall.
Wilson also indicated that his wife was still inside the house. Authorities contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to take over the case.
