Savannah, GA – A Georgia man is facing multiple felony charges after prosecutors said he stole his wife’s SUV and hit her with it several times, leaving her with serious injuries before attempting to flee the scene.
Violent Attack with Stolen Vehicle
According to court documents, Twan Maurice Byrd was indicted Wednesday in connection to a February 3 incident involving his wife’s Chevy Equinox. Prosecutors allege Byrd stole the vehicle and then used it as a weapon, striking his wife “multiple times” in what witnesses described as a deliberate attempt to run her over.
An arrest report obtained by The Georgia Gazette stated that at one point Byrd backed over his wife before she managed to escape into a nearby car wash. Witnesses told police he then hit her again before abandoning both the SUV and his severely injured wife, fleeing on foot.
Additional Physical Assault Allegations
The bill of indictment also accused Byrd of strangling his wife and striking her in the face during the attack. Responding officers found her bleeding heavily from the nose and mouth with a broken leg. She identified Byrd as her attacker before being rushed to a hospital.
Prosecutors noted that the right leg injury was “seriously disfiguring” and consistent with multiple impacts from a vehicle.
Witness Tampering and Stalking Accusations
In addition to the violent assault, prosecutors say Byrd attempted to influence his wife’s testimony in ongoing divorce proceedings in Chatham County Superior Court. He allegedly offered to “give her whatever she wanted” if she agreed not to testify against him.
Byrd is also accused of stalking his wife by making harassing and intimidating phone calls.

Byrd faces a lengthy list of charges, including:
- Hijacking a motor vehicle
- Criminal attempt to commit murder
- Kidnapping

- Stalking
