MOUNT CLEMENS, Michigan — Two houses and two spas in Macomb County were searched by a group of police officers who are looking into reports of human trafficking in the area.
The office said that just after 7 a.m. on May 29, six people were arrested after the Sheriff’s Enforcement Team searched houses in Macomb Township and Shelby Township as well as health spas in Shelby Township and Sterling Heights.
Police officers walking down Gulliver Drive in Shelby Township with shields and battering rams were caught on a neighbor’s security video.
One person from Shelby Township, Bill Anton, said, “I came out here and there must have been 25 cars, so it looked like a raid.” “The police were here, the sheriff’s department, FBI, border patrol.”
A group of men and women were taken from a house in Lakeview Manor, which is near 21 Mile and Schoenherr. A news report said that in addition to the six people who were arrested, six other people were also taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Anton lives across the street from us.
“I witnessed them handcuff a lot of people,” he shared. “They were sitting on the sidewalk for a while – talking to them, interviewing them.”
According to the neighbors, the house was bought during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they thought the owner was going to open a diner. They thought that everyone they saw going in and out worked there.
It turns out, though, that the house was one of the places police are looking into for human trafficking.
“Unfortunately, that’s a horrible thing no matter at what level,” he said.
The police team was made up of the FBI in Macomb County, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Sterling Heights Police Department. The operation was run by the sheriff’s office.
