Authorities say that on July 4, several people were hurt when a shark attacked them on a beach in Texas.
The South Padre Island Police Department and the U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area both told Fox News Digital that four people were hurt when they were attacked by the animal off the southern coast of the state on South Padre Island.
The attacks took place along Beach Access 14 around 11 a.m. local time, close to the Wanna Wanna Beach Bar and Grill, according to the police.
First rescuers from the South Padre Island police and fire departments treated one of the male victims at the scene before taking him to a nearby hospital, cops said.
A police report said the man’s leg was “severely” bitten.
A police spokesman did not say anything new about the man’s health. It took a while to get information on the three other cases.
The killings took place along the beach over two hours, according to Capt. Chris Dowdy, a game warden.
Dowdy said that witnesses and pictures on social media have led police to think that a single shark about 6 feet (1.8 meters) long was to blame.
A video shared on social media seemed to show someone who was badly hurt being pulled ashore after the attack. As scared beachgoers broke out in tears, blood could be seen in the water. A group of people watching seemed to get a belt to use as a bandage.
The police said they were walking along the shore looking for sharks.
