David Urban, a senior Trump campaign consultant, proposed that the former president pardon Hunter Biden, who was convicted Tuesday of federal firearms crimes.
Urban argued on CNN’s “Out Front with Erin Burnett” that President Trump could issue a statement saying, “Look, if Hunter Biden commits to a program of sobriety, inpatient or outpatient, shows up, keeps his sobriety, I’ll pardon him.”
I wish President Trump would say that. He said that his offer would be generous, and humane, and turn the tables on the Democrats.
CNN commentator Urban was Trump’s 2016 campaign senior adviser. Last year, he called the first GOP presidential primary debate a “complete train wreck.”
A Delaware jury convicted President Biden’s son of three felony gun charges coming from a six-year-old gun purchase on Tuesday. Hunter Biden risks 25 years in prison and $750,000 in fines, but first-time offenders rarely receive the maximum.
After the verdict this week, Biden expressed his love and support for his son and accepted the verdict. He repeated his refusal to forgive his son.
The White House would not rule out Biden commuting his son’s sentence on Wednesday.
“I haven’t spoken to the president about this since the verdict came out and as we all know, the sentencing hasn’t even been scheduled,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said of a prospective commutation.
“When asked about a pardon and the trial, he answered clearly and directly. As of now, the sentencing has still not been scheduled. Beyond what the president said, I have nothing. This is his clear message, she said.
