Franklin, IN – A former teacher from Greenwood and Southport has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple child sex crimes, according to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Jury Convicts on Multiple Felony Charges
In June, a Johnson County jury convicted Shane Williams, 48, on two counts of child molestation, one count of child solicitation, and one count of dissemination of harmful material. The convictions came after prosecutors presented disturbing evidence detailing Williams’ sexual exploitation of minors who were not his students.
Investigation Triggered by Victim’s Report
Court records indicate that the investigation began when one victim reported that Williams had been showing pornography and forcing inappropriate contact. The victim was not a student at the time of the abuse, but their account prompted a deeper investigation.
As reported by WISH-TV, a second nonstudent victim later came forward with similar allegations of abuse, strengthening the prosecution’s case.
Pattern of Abuse Revealed
Investigators say both victims described incidents that displayed a troubling pattern of sexual misconduct. According to prosecutors, Williams used explicit materials to groom the victims, violating their trust and subjecting them to repeated exploitation.
Sentencing and Community Response
Following the guilty verdict, Williams was sentenced to two decades behind bars. Prosecutors emphasized the seriousness of his crimes and the lasting damage inflicted on the victims. Community members expressed relief that the case reached a conviction, but many remain deeply disturbed by the abuse.
