LANSING, MI (Gray News/WILX) – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced that Tommy Lazzaro, a former quarterback for Central Michigan University, died on December 22 in a hunting accident.
The fatal event took place on Sunday afternoon at Eglin Air Force Base in Walton County, Florida.
At the scene, the 27-year-old was declared dead.
It seems to have been a sad hunting accident, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, everyone who was involved stayed on the site and is assisting with the investigation.
Lazzaro spent four seasons as a member of the Central Michigan University Chippewas.
He enlisted in the US Army at the conclusion of his playing career and has since advanced to sergeant.
On Saturday, a celebration was planned in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, to honor Lazzaro.
