Former College Basketball Player Kayla Harris Has Been Named as a Victim of the Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

Kayla Harris, a former basketball player at Adams State University, has been named as one of the people who died in a mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Harris was shot and killed at an apartment complex in north Las Vegas on Monday, June 24. Her family confirmed this with her college mate.

Five people were killed in the shooting, and the Associated Press reports that a 13-year-old girl is still in critical condition after being seriously hurt.

Harris was studying toward her Master’s degree in Business Administration at Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado. She finished her Bachelor’s degree in the fall of 2023.

The player from Las Vegas helped Adams State get to the semifinals of the Division II South Central Region event earlier this year. They lost to No. 1 seed Texas Woman’s University in the finals. Harris scored 15 points in her last game as a player. It was the season high.

“I am saddened to hear of Kayla’s untimely death,” Adams State President David Tandberg said in a statement. “On behalf of everyone at Adams State, I send our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the whole Grizzly community during this very sad time.” We’re really sad about everything.

“We were honored to see Kayla do so well on and off the court,” Tandberg said. It’s hard to understand and deal with the loss of a young woman whose life looked so bright.

Harris shared a carousel of photos from her summer in Las Vegas on Instagram earlier this month. Her friends and family can now use this as a place to remember and honor her.

“a legend that will never be forgotten ” said one person. Someone else wrote, “I’m sorry it took this long to tell you again.” “I love you .”

According to the AP, Eric Adams, 47, opened fire near the corner of Commerce Street and Lone Mountain Road in Las Vegas on Monday, killing Harris and two other people in their mid-20s. The victims were a woman in her late 50s, a woman in her early 40s, and two men in their mid-20s.

Immediately after the killing, the shooter ran away, and police did not find him until Tuesday, June 24.

When the man was caught at a business in Las Vegas, he ran into the garden of a nearby house and killed himself after being told by police to drop his gun.

The shooting is being called a “isolated incident” by the police.
