Florida Woman Considers Divorce After Discovering Wealthy Husband Secretly Selling Their Belongings

Tampa, Florida — A 42-year-old woman has turned to online forums for advice after years of financial secrecy and emotional frustration in her marriage to a man she describes as wealthy but deceptive. After a decade together and three children, she now says she’s ready to walk away if her husband doesn’t change.

The woman, who shared her story anonymously on Reddit, explained that her husband has always been secretive about his finances — a pattern that has persisted since the early days of their relationship.

“He has always been really secretive with his finances and was kind of showy when we dated letting me know he could ‘take care of me,’” she wrote.

When they first met, he appeared confident and generous, claiming financial stability. But over time, that image began to fade as she discovered a very different reality behind the scenes.

Hidden Debts and Family Bailouts

The woman revealed that although her husband earns more than double her income, he constantly struggles with money management and debt.

“At three different points in his life he has had someone bail him out of major credit card debt that he didn’t have to pay back,” she shared.

She explained that his parents have often intervened financially, which she believes has enabled his careless behavior. Despite her own contributions — paying for groceries, household bills, and personal expenses — her husband’s lack of budgeting and transparency has caused ongoing tension.

“It’s frustrating. Not because I’m jealous, but because he makes enough that if he budgeted and was honest with me, we would be fine,” she said.

Secretly Selling Household Items

Recently, things took a turn for the worse after the couple’s move to a new home. The woman discovered that her husband had been selling their household belongings without telling her, including sentimental and gifted items.

“He has been listing things for sale on Marketplace and not letting me know he is selling them,” she wrote. “Some things were furniture his mother gifted us, one was a lamp I loved, and he was sneaky about it.”

She said she often wakes up to find items missing and has repeatedly asked him to discuss such sales before doing them — but he brushes off her concerns.

“He said it isn’t a big deal and he forgets,” she added.

After ten years of repeating the same conversations, she admitted she’s “beyond frustrated” and “at [her] wits’ end.”

Emotional Labor and Unequal Responsibility

The woman said she also carries the mental and emotional load of managing their household. She has been solely responsible for packing, organizing, and managing their recent move — including sorting through her late mother-in-law’s belongings that were left untouched in their garage.

“It’s been 2.5 years and he has done nothing with almost an entire house’s worth of stuff in our garage,” she said.

While her husband occasionally sells some of those items, he often sells things she wanted to keep, spends the money, and later complains that they’re broke.

“He will sell this stuff, spend the money and then complain he is broke and we can’t replace it,” she explained.

Marriage Reaching Its Breaking Point

After years of the same financial fights, emotional distance, and constant dishonesty, the woman says she’s finally considering divorce.

“This has been 10 years of him and his bs and I’m honestly considering divorcing him after our move if things do not change,” she confessed.

Many online commenters sympathized, warning her that her husband’s behavior might reflect deeper financial instability.

“It’s going to be bad for you if he’s actually swimming in debt and good (I guess) if he’s actually wealthy,” one Redditor wrote. “Did you sign a prenup?”

The woman responded that there was no prenuptial agreement — but her husband’s father has already taken precautions regarding future inheritance due to his son’s history with money.

As she weighs her next steps, the woman’s story serves as a reminder of how financial secrecy can erode trust and stability in even the longest relationships.
