Middleburg, FL – A quiet Florida community was rocked early Monday morning after a 14-year-old boy called 911 to report that he had shot and killed his parents following an argument inside their home, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Teen Walked to Church to Confess the Killings
The suspect, identified as Trevor Lee, reportedly walked to a nearby church just after midnight and called 911, telling the dispatcher:
“I just killed my parents.”
Sheriff Michelle Cook confirmed during a press conference that deputies responded simultaneously to the church and the boy’s residence. At the church, they found Trevor waiting to be arrested.
Parents Found Dead with Gunshot Wounds
When law enforcement arrived at the home in Middleburg, they discovered the bodies of David Lee, 44, and Brandy Smith, 45. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Investigators also recovered the firearm at the scene, which officials believe belonged to the parents.
“It appears that there was some sort of domestic argument between Trevor Lee and his parents last night, and this shooting culminated from that argument,” said Sheriff Cook.
No Other Individuals in the Home
Sheriff Cook confirmed that no one else was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Trevor Lee is believed to have acted alone. Following his confession, he was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the nature of the dispute, nor have they confirmed whether Trevor has been formally charged.
Investigation Remains Active
The case remains under active investigation, and officials are asking anyone with additional information about the family or the incident to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 904-264-6512.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy for a family and for our community,” said one deputy at the scene. “We are working to understand what led to this horrific act.”
