Middleburg, FL – A 14-year-old boy is facing two counts of second-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing his mother and father inside their home and then walking more than a mile to a nearby church, where he reportedly called 911 and confessed to the crime in the early morning hours.
Teen Walks to Church After Double Homicide
Authorities say Trevor Lee, of Clay County, walked approximately 1.4 miles to Cross Pointe Church around 3:48 a.m. on Monday. Once there, he called 911 and informed the dispatcher, “I killed my parents,” according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
In the chilling exchange, Lee reportedly said, “Pray for me,” to which the dispatcher calmly replied, “I’ll definitely be praying for you, son.”
Sheriff’s deputies arrived shortly after and took Lee into custody without incident.
Victims Identified as Brandi Smith and David Lee
The victims were identified as Brandi Smith, 45, and David Lee, 44 — the boy’s mother and father. The couple was found shot dead inside their home on Silver Point, in the Fleming Island area of Middleburg.
A press release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Lee is being charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
Family Members in Shock After Tragic Confession
In a separate 911 call, David Lee’s sister, who is also Trevor’s aunt, called authorities after reportedly learning about the incident. She said the family had spent the day peacefully.
“They had a good day. They went to the movies,” she told dispatchers.
The comment has deepened the community’s sense of shock, as there were no public signs of escalating violence in the home prior to the tragedy.
Possible Argument Preceded Shooting
Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook held a press conference Monday and said that investigators believe the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic argument.
“It appears there was some sort of domestic argument,” Cook said. “This shooting culminated from that argument.”
Lee allegedly admitted to the crime during interviews with detectives. He was arrested inside the church and is currently being held without bond.
911 Call Audio and Facebook Posts Emerge
Clay County officials released audio of the 911 call, where the dispatcher remained calm and supportive as the teen confessed.
“Take a deep breath because they’re going to come up and talk to you… you need to be listening for them, OK?” the dispatcher told him.
“Yes, ma’am,” Lee replied.
Adding a haunting context, a 2019 Facebook post by Brandi Smith has resurfaced, in which she wrote:
“This lil boy gives me pure hell… Everything I did to my parents I’m getting it back times 10. Y’all keep us lifted up in prayer.”
Authorities Investigating Mental Health History
Law enforcement officials confirmed they are reviewing Lee’s mental health background, though no official statements have been released regarding prior treatment or diagnoses.
The case has stirred significant concern across the region about youth mental health, gun access, and domestic family dynamics.
