Homestead, FL – A Florida man is facing serious charges after allegedly attacking his longtime girlfriend with a baseball bat, nearly killing her in a violent assault. Jamie Michael Lane, 51, stands accused of attempted felony murder, according to Miami-Dade County court records.
Incident Details and Arrest
The horrific incident unfolded on Tuesday at a residence in Homestead, a suburban city near Miami. Police responded to a 911 call from the victim’s residence, where they discovered the woman had already suffered multiple injuries from the attack.
According to the victim’s account, the couple, who had been living together for four years, had been involved in a heated argument before the incident. Lane reportedly became upset after the woman ignored his repeated calls. When she refused to open the door, Lane allegedly forced his way inside, armed with a wooden baseball bat.
The Brutal Attack
The victim stated that Lane struck her three times with the bat: once on her forehead, once on the back of her head, and again on her left arm. As Lane continued the attack, the woman reportedly screamed, “Stop before you kill me.” This plea seemed to have momentarily stopped Lane, according to the victim, who added that he then dropped to his knees and began praying for forgiveness before fleeing the scene.
A witness corroborated the woman’s account of events, confirming the details of the attack.
Victim’s Condition and Medical Response
After the attack, the victim was immediately taken to Baptist Health Homestead Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with a left frontal hematoma and possible skull fractures. She is expected to recover, but the severity of her injuries highlights the brutal nature of the assault.
Investigation and Evidence Recovery
Following the victim’s interview, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Lane’s residence. Inside, investigators recovered the broken wooden baseball bat, believed to be the weapon used in the assault.
Lane’s Surrender and Legal Proceedings
Lane turned himself in on Wednesday and was arrested. He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond. Jail records show that the crime is being classified as domestic violence.
A stay-away order has been issued against Lane, preventing him from contacting the victim. Lane is due to appear in court for his arraignment on October 14.
