Sarasota, FL – Authorities say a young girl remains in critical condition after being swept into a storm drain on Sunday evening following a water main break, officials reported.
Incident Details
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. while the child was playing near a culvert. The strong water flow pulled her into the drainage system, and she was later located approximately 100 yards west on the street.
The child was immediately transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where she remains in critical condition WTSP.
Investigation Underway
Officials said a criminal investigation detective has been assigned to the case to determine the circumstances surrounding the water main break and the child’s accident.
