Florida Father and Son Accused of Kidnapping Car Salesmen at Gunpoint After Mercedes Deal Dispute, Deputies Say

Hollywood, Florida – Authorities say a disagreement over a used Mercedes-Benz turned into a violent confrontation that ended with two car salesmen allegedly being kidnapped at gunpoint by a father-and-son duo.

Deputies responded to a RaceTrac gas station on Nov. 28, where they encountered Oscar Garcia-Berrios, 50, his son Brandon Garcia, 23, and the two victims they were allegedly holding against their will. What began as a scheduled meeting to finalize paperwork reportedly escalated into an armed standoff that forced the victims to drive the suspects across Broward County.

What Deputies Say Sparked the Violent Encounter

According to the arrest affidavit, Garcia and his father bought a 2021 Mercedes-Benz for $37,000 just two days before the incident. They were set to meet the salesmen on Nov. 28 to complete the transaction.

Around 4 p.m., one of the salesmen allegedly sent Garcia a text about a temporary tag. Investigators say it was an accidental message, but Garcia interpreted it as a sign that the dealership might be trying to deceive them.

Concerned, the pair went to Car Express Florida in Pompano Beach. One victim told deputies that when he arrived, he saw Garcia standing by the Mercedes with a backpack, accompanied by his father and a third unidentified man.

Armed Threats and Demands Inside the Dealership

Once the victims entered the office, the situation reportedly turned hostile. The suspects demanded the title be transferred to their name and that a temporary tag be issued immediately. When one salesman explained that additional documentation was required, deputies say Brandon Garcia pulled out an AR-15-style rifle, while his father drew a handgun.

The affidavit states that Garcia pointed the rifle at one of the salesmen and demanded a refund, warning he was “not playing any games.”

One victim was carrying a firearm in his waistband, which the unidentified third man allegedly seized. Fearing for their lives, the salesmen attempted to contact their manager to reverse the sale, but were unable to reach him.

Items Taken and Escalation to Kidnapping

Deputies say the unidentified man began taking property from the business, including temporary tags, a money counter, and registration documents.

After approximately 40 minutes, the suspects allegedly ordered the salesmen into their vehicle at gunpoint. According to investigators, Garcia-Berrios forced the victims into the car, while Garcia followed in the Mercedes and the third suspect drove an SUV.

During the tense drive, one victim secretly texted family members, alerting them to the kidnapping and asking them to contact law enforcement.

Gas Station Meeting Leads to Arrest

The victims convinced the suspects to drive to the RaceTrac gas station in Hollywood, claiming they would meet with their manager there. Family members, already informed of the plan, directed deputies to the location.

Upon arrival, deputies spotted Garcia carrying a backpack. Inside, they found an AR-15-style rifle and one of the suspect’s phones. A handgun was also recovered from Garcia-Berrios.

Both men were taken into custody without incident and booked into the Broward County Jail. They face charges including kidnapping, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, and remain held without bond. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Friday. Authorities are still working to identify the third suspect.

Community Safety Concerns

The case highlights ongoing concerns about disputes escalating at private businesses. Law enforcement officials continue urging residents to report threats immediately and to avoid confrontation when disagreements arise during major transactions.
