Dodge City, KS – A Flood Watch is in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday for much of central and southwest Kansas, as heavy rainfall threatens to cause dangerous travel conditions overnight into Monday morning. Authorities warn residents to remain vigilant and prepared.

Counties Under Flood Watch

According to the National Weather Service Dodge City, counties affected by the watch include Ford, Pratt, Barber, Pawnee, Edwards, Stafford, Comanche, Kiowa, Hodgeman, Ness, Lane, and Rush. One to three inches of rain have already fallen across the region, and additional precipitation may cause creeks and rivers to overflow.

Low-lying areas in Dodge City, Pratt, and Medicine Lodge could experience extensive street flooding, particularly if storms train over the same locations.

Impact on Roads and Travel

The NWS warns that flooding could affect local highways, including U.S. 50, U.S. 283, and state routes connecting smaller towns. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads overnight and plan alternate routes in case of closures.
