CHESTER, Pa. At Delaware County Linen in Chester, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, five people were shot and two were killed. This was reported by the district attorney.
District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer told the press that an angry worker went into the linen shop and shot five coworkers. Two of the people who were hurt died, and three were taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in critical condition.
“We have two individuals who have unfortunately lost their life just by showing up to work today by a disgruntled former employee,” said Stollsteimer, “and we have three other people who are at the hospital right now and we are all praying for them.”
Around 8:30 a.m., there was a shooting in the 2600 block of West 4th Street. Police said it took place both inside and outside the linen shop.
He said that one person died inside the store and one died outside.
“This is a tragedy, a story that plays out too often across the United States of America,” Stollsteimer added.
At a news conference, Mayor Stefan Roots of the City of Chester said that one of the victims was the man’s boss.
According to the DA, the shooter tried to get away but was caught by cops in Trainer, Delaware County.
He said that a handgun was used in the killing.
Sources say that police found a 9mm semiautomatic handgun in the car that the man fled in.
The district attorney told CBS News Philadelphia in a one-on-one talk that “just too many guns are in the hands of people who shouldn’t have them.”
“This person is a dissatisfied worker at this company who doesn’t like some of his coworkers for some reason,” Stollsteimer explained. “They decide to kill them.” Two people are now dead. These people thought they were just going about their daily lives when they went to work today like they do every day. Now they’re lying dead on the ground.”
“Every day people trying to get to work.” Take care of their families. He also said, “Live the American Dream.” “They were killed this morning before 10 a.m. The lives of their family are ruined.
The mayor asked for stricter gun laws and better services for mental health.
“It’s about guns in the U.S.” Our city is having trouble with crime. There are great groups here that deal with it on every level. It breaks my heart. It’s very sad. Roots said, “It has to stop.” “Chester, Pennsylvania, never thought it would be the site of another violent workplace incident.” Our neighborhood is very close. Everyone here knows each other. This is why it hurts so much for so many of us: we’re all family.
At this point, investigators are not saying who they think the shooter is.
The mayor said the White House got in touch with the city.
