Social Security beneficiaries’ fixed payments are being investigated!

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed a document to reinforce the investigation and combat fraud in the Social Security system of the U.S.

This document is a memorandum of the government and it will change the number of people receiving fixed payments from the government, it will lower the number.

Trump’s government is trying to get rid of frauds and solve situations like fraudsters receiving those fixed payments and benefiting from social insurance and all the Social Security benefits.

From now on, the process of applying for a benefit will be looked at very closely, but… for everybody? Let’s see what Trump has to say about this fraud situation and what he proposes as solutions.

Memorandum of the government

A memorandum may sound like a fancy word, but it is actually a document recording the terms of a contract or other legal details. In this case, Trump is taking action against those who obtain fixed payments from the Social Security benefits illegally.

This will change the process in a much more difficult and surveillance way. How would they do it? Well, they already have a plan for it.

What are those changes?

The government will have more authority and tools to investigate every application for the Social Security benefits.

They will investigate in depth suspicious cases of beneficiaries receiving a fixed payment as they will also increase federal prosecutors to be incharge of these specific cases. People who commit fraud will face a fine from the government.

The reason behind these measures is the protection of public benefits from people who don’t match the requirements and just want to benefit from the public resources.

Not everybody will be affected from receiving fixed payments

This memorandum doesn’t mean most American citizens won’t be able to have access to Social Security benefits, but that the ones with no right to apply for them receive fixed payments. There are two main groups that won’t obtain any help from the government.

The first group is illegal immigrants. Those living in the United States with no legal immigration status can be beneficiaries, but only if they have a legal work status in the U.S. and have paid taxes. However, those who try to get fixed payments every month by using fake identities and Social Security numbers will be investigated and fined.

The other important affected group is people with suspicious registers. There have been some cases accused of being suspicious because Social Security workers find beneficiaries who are over 100 years old. So, in these cases and similar ones, they hold them back and investigate them in depth.

Fraudster consequences in the U.S.

According to the

Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR)

, American citizens contribute to the country’s public services with over $182 billion per year by paying taxes. It is estimated that about $20 million of illegal immigrants benefit from them.

So, Trump’s government is looking to saving a lot of money on these financial aids and make sure these benefits are used with people who have paid their duties.

How important is this memorandum?

Well, it is very important because it means the protection of legal American citizens and also illegal people living in the U.S. (who matches the requirements). So, it is crucial that American citizens feel their taxes are being used for public services like public education, medic services and social insurance, among many others.

What’s more, by saving money, the government can keep the Social Security benefits for much longer, something many retirees, disabled people and families with low income make use of to afford the high costs of living.
