Orlando, FL – A Florida cosmetologist and his sister are under investigation after allegedly running a fake dental practice in Orlando for years, performing unlicensed procedures that left patients with disfigured teeth and serious health complications.
Alleged Scheme Behind the Fake Dental Practice
According to local officials, Carlos Rendon and his sister Yorlady Rendon allegedly offered dental services despite lacking any medical or dental license. The siblings reportedly shaved down patients’ natural teeth and placed oversized veneers, charging thousands of dollars for the treatments.
One woman told investigators that after receiving veneers from the Rendons, she developed a bad gum infection.
“The woman wanted to cry because of how they looked,” local authorities reported to Fox affiliate WOFL.
Police say it is unclear how many people were affected by the siblings’ alleged scheme, but the fraudulent dental work reportedly continued for several years, accumulating substantial cash payments.
Licenses and Legal Oversight
The Florida Department of Health confirmed that Carlos Rendon is a licensed cosmetologist, which permits him to perform hair and nail services, but not dental or medical procedures.
“The girl ended up getting infections,” said Dr. Deoraj Ravi Lall, a licensed dentist in the area.
“She can have many things go wrong that a typical person would not even think about treating. If you get an infection in your gums, it can lead to a problem with your heart. It can lead to problems with your kidneys. It can lead to diabetes. You can get many problems.”
Health Risks from Fake Dental Work
Experts warn that unlicensed dental procedures can carry serious and potentially life-threatening health risks, including infections that can affect multiple organs. Patients receiving oversized veneers or improper dental work may face long-term damage, including gum disease, tooth decay, and systemic infections.
Legal Consequences
The Rendons are reportedly facing felony charges for their alleged actions. Specific details regarding the charges have not yet been released. Florida Department of Health officials and local police have not provided further comments to Law&Crime as of Thursday.
Authorities urge anyone who received dental work from unlicensed providers to seek immediate medical evaluation and report the incident to local law enforcement.
