Early Morning Collision on Highway 1 Kills 73-year-old Man, Road Closed for Investigation

A 73-year-old man was killed after being hit by a car on Highway 1 in the early morning near Soquel Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 5 a.m. while a 44-year-old lady was driving southbound on Highway 1.

The anonymous man was strolling down Highway 1 when the motorist collided with him, injuring him and killing him on the spot.

Highway 1 southbound in the region has been closed as a result.

The CHP said traffic is being diverted to Morrissey Boulevard while they investigate.

No identifying information about the vehicle(s) involved was supplied.
