ALPINE, Arizona — A 15-year-old boy is getting better after being hurt by a bear in eastern Arizona on Thursday.
In Alpine, which is close to the state line between Arizona and New Mexico, the Arizona Game and Fish Department was told about a black bear attack.
Officials say the bear came in through an open door and slashed at the boy from behind while he was sitting in a shack. The bear then left the house and went up to other family members. It then came back inside and swiped at his arm.
The boy was hurt in the face and arm and was taken to the hospital to get better.
They found the bear and “dispatched” it when the wildlife cops got there. The picture above is a stock shot of a black bear that is not the bear that was involved in this case.
The AZGFD says the bear was a male black bear that was probably about 3 years old. Wildlife health experts are looking at the bear’s body and testing it for diseases.
Arizona Game and Fish Department says this is the 16th bear attack on a person in Arizona since 1990.
