CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. — A Kentucky man on the run from the law was caught thanks to a broken taillight and some good police work in Middle Tennessee.
Simpson County, Kentucky court staff say Patricia Moore was given a one-year jail term for cocaine charges in 2016, but that sentence was suspended in exchange for three years of probation.
Officials said Moore had to meet with her probation officers regularly and go to treatment programs as part of her probation. Reports say she stopped doing this, though, so Moore was given a bench warrant.
The 57-year-old hasn’t been seen in more than six years.
Then, on April 19, Cheatham County Deputy Jason Lee Knotts pulled over a car on Bearwallow Road because the taillight was broken. A quick check of the people in the car raised a red flag when the deputy saw that Moore, who said her home address was Nashville, had an open warrant for her arrest as a criminal suspect.
News 2 got video from Moore’s body camera of the stop and their conversation with police at the scene.
The deputy asked, “You know you have a warrant out of Kentucky.”
“Do I?” Moore answered. It was paperwork they sent me. I have to go to court.”
Dispatch can be heard saying in the video, “Probation violation on drug charges.”
Moore is said to be in jail in Cheatham County while he waits to be sent back to Kentucky.
When Moore got back to the Commonwealth, officials said he might have to serve the year in jail that the court set aside in 2016.
