DeKalb County Drug and Gambling Raid Nets 16 Arrests, Major Meth Seizure

FYFFE, AL – A major narcotics and gambling raid in DeKalb County ended Monday, October 6, with 16 arrests and a significant seizure of methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Raid Conducted by Special Response Team

The DeKalb County Special Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence on Hammonds Road in Fyffe, uncovering illegal activity and a large stash of drugs. Officials reported that 101 grams of methamphetamine, along with fentanyl, marijuana, and various drug paraphernalia, were confiscated during the operation.

Authorities also discovered illegal gambling taking place inside the home. In the main gambling area, deputies found marijuana, cigarettes, baggies of marijuana, and methamphetamine pipes.

Arrests and Charges

Joseph M. Higgins, 48, of Valley Head, was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana. Investigators noted that Higgins has multiple outstanding warrants with other agencies.

In addition, 15 others were charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, including:

  • Melessa Mulligan (54, Rainsville)
  • John Mulligan (59, Valley Head)
  • Edwin Guest (32, Fyffe)
