Death toll from dozens of earthquakes in Guatemala rises to 3

A day after hundreds of earthquakes rocked Guatemala, leaving roads blocked by landslides and walls in ruins, authorities announced a third death on Wednesday.

The most recent victim, according to President Bernardo Arvalo on social media, was a woman who was buried by rubble south of the capital of Guatemala. He was visiting a village close to the epicenter and sent his sympathies to the families of the victims.

According to firefighters, the other two casualties were men who were going in a truck on a route in the Escuintla department when they were struck by falling rocks.

As the aftershocks persisted, families in the impacted areas spent the night outside their homes.

Officials reported that the tremors were felt as far away as El Salvador and caused landslides, building evacuations, and some property damage.

Ar Valo stated on Tuesday that the department of Sacatep Quez was the primary epicenter of the earthquakes, with aftershocks occurring in the Guatemala and Escuintla departments.
