The father of her children was picking them up from day care when a woman in Florida reportedly shot him several times with a 9 mm handgun while yelling, “Please, let the monster die.”
“You got to die,” Mindy Osteen, 34, told Christopher Jones, the father of her two children, as she shot him at Auntie Lili’s Daycare in Starke on Friday while he was picking up their children, according to her police report. This place called Starke is in northern Florida, about 45 miles southwest of Jacksonville.
At least six more kids and two staff members were in the day care when the killing happened in the evening.
“Chris, you can’t kill redacted,” Osteen is said to have told the victim after fire. Apparently Osteen was talking about someone, but it wasn’t clear who right away. After looking over the paper, it looks like the children’s names were taken out of the affidavit.
Jones answered, “I’m not killing anyone.”
Police say Osteen attacked Jones while he was trying to get the kids into his car. She had a 9 mm Arex Delta gun hidden in her backpack. A report on the arrest says that security video shows Osteen hiding nearby before she starts shooting at Jones.
“[Jones] puts in the car seats in the back seat of his vehicle as Mindy follows and watches,” it says. Christofer is in the driver’s seat, and the door to that seat is open. Mindy walks right up to Christopher and fires three shots while taking a small step back. She then comes back up to Christopher and shoots him twice more. You can hear Christopher yelling.
When deputies from the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office got there, Smith is said to have told them Osteen was guilty for the shooting.
She told the cops, “I’m right here, y’all,” according to the report of her arrest. “I done it in self-defense.”
No information has been made public about what Osteen meant. Smith was taken to a nearby hospital but died there from his injuries.
