The WBZ Weather Team has marked Friday as a NEXT Weather Alert Day because more high temperatures, heavy humidity, and possibly strong storms are coming to the Boston area.
First, the heat
The National Weather Service has warned that it will be hot on Thursday and Friday.
We have already had the same number of 90-degree days in Boston as there were in 2024, even though summer is only halfway over.
We are going to add to that number in the next few days.
It will get up to the low 90s in most places along and north of the Mass Pike on Thursday.
The dew point will rise into the 60s, which will make it feel a few degrees warmer.
Friday is the hottest day.
Today and tomorrow will be the hottest and wettest.
It will get into the mid- to upper-90s, which could break some daily marks.
It will get as wet as 70 degrees, which will raise the “feels-like” temperature by 5 to 10 degrees.
It will be cooler and drier in southern New England on Friday afternoon and evening, when a cold front moves through.
Chance of big storms
We will have to go through a round of thunderstorms, some of which could be very bad, in order to get there.
Today, the Storms Prediction Center says that there is a “marginal” chance that heavy storms will hit our whole area on Friday. On their scale, this is a 1 out of 5. They might change this in the next 24 hours and put some parts of the area at a “slight” risk, or level 2.
Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. is when thunderstorms are most likely to happen.
When storms happen, they might bring heavy rain, lightning, damaging wind gusts, and small hail.
If you plan to be outside on Friday afternoon or evening, you should check the weather often.
Weekend Weather
The rain will end, and then the air will get dryer. It will be another great Saturday!
It’s possible that it will rain or snow again on Sunday. In a few days, I’ll say more about that.
