Covina, CA – A teenage boy was fatally shot outside a house party in Covina late Saturday night, after a fight among minors reportedly escalated into gunfire, authorities said. The Covina Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
Shooting Occurred Near Socially Advertised Party
Police responded to the 700 block of Peachtree Lane shortly after 10 p.m. for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers observed several teenagers fleeing the scene.
According to the Covina Police Department, the victim was driven by friends to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The party, reportedly heavily advertised on social media, was attended primarily by teens. One adult, a resident of the home, was present, but the homeowners were not at the property during the event.
Authorities Urge Parents to Stay Vigilant
Sgt. Ray Marquez of the Covina Police Department emphasized the importance of parental awareness:
“It’s a huge concern that you think your kids are just out hanging out with friends and the biggest concern is truly having those conversations with your kids and understanding what they’re doing, what they’re involved in and who they’re hanging out with,” Marquez said.
He added that even teens who seem innocent may become involved in dangerous situations, highlighting the need for parents to know their children’s activities and companions.
Evidence and Initial Investigation
Police recovered a firearm at the scene and have detained two individuals for questioning, but no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Details on what led up to the fight or the identity of the shooter have not been released.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to seek any additional information from the public.
