A woman from Cook County is facing serious charges after fleeing the police and crashing her car during a high-speed chase. The incident, which took place early Thursday morning in Oak Brook’s Timber Trails neighborhood, also involves an accomplice who is facing charges related to methamphetamine possession and identity theft.
The Incident
Around 1:44 a.m. on Thursday, Oak Brook police officers were investigating a vehicle with suspended license plates. They spotted the vehicle in the Timber Trails subdivision and approached it. As the officers got closer, the driver, later identified as 41-year-old Patryk Zubrzcki from River Grove, started the car and drove past the officer.
When the officer turned on the sirens and emergency lights to signal the car to stop, Zubrzcki did not comply. Instead, he drove further into the neighborhood, attempting to escape. As Zubrzcki noticed another officer stationed at the exit of the subdivision, he reportedly made a U-turn and fled on foot after briefly stopping the car.
Zubrzcki’s Arrest and Evidence
Zubrzcki was quickly apprehended after a brief chase on foot. During the arrest, officers found 3.7 grams of methamphetamine in his possession. As police were dealing with Zubrzcki, his accomplice, Tiffany Main, 32, from Arlington Heights, took over the driver’s seat of the car and tried to flee the scene.
Main’s Dangerous Escape Attempt
Main continued the dangerous escape, driving over spike strips set up by police. One of her car’s tires was deflated, but she didn’t stop. Main kept driving, even crossing into the wrong lane of traffic at times. She also collided with a police squad car as she abruptly stopped the vehicle. Despite all this, she kept going, driving through more spike strips, which eventually deflated all the remaining tires.
Main’s car finally came to a stop after crashing into a cement median at 22nd Street and Butterfield Road. After the crash, Main tried to flee on foot but was quickly caught by officers following a short chase.
Stolen Mail Found in the Car
A search of the vehicle revealed even more serious evidence. Officers found multiple pieces of stolen mail inside the car. The mail was from various addresses in Oak Brook, including Timber Trail Drive, as well as other areas like Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, and Bensenville.
Charges Against the Defendants
Tiffany Main is facing two felony charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, and one misdemeanor charge for driving with a revoked license. Meanwhile, her accomplice, Patryk Zubrzcki, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, identity theft (in connection with the stolen mail), and misdemeanor fleeing and eluding.
Zubrzcki was released after his court appearance because his charges are non-detainable under current Illinois law. On the other hand, Main was ordered to be detained pending her trial. Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court on February 3.
Legal Implications and Upcoming Court Date
Main’s actions were not only reckless but also criminal. With charges ranging from fleeing police to possessing stolen mail, she is facing serious legal consequences. Zubrzcki, although released, will still face charges related to methamphetamine possession and identity theft, making him a key figure in this ongoing investigation.
The court will decide their fate during the upcoming appearance, and both suspects will be held accountable for their actions.
Conclusion
This event highlights the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement and committing other crimes like identity theft and drug possession. With stolen mail found in the car, the authorities are now investigating further to see if any other crimes were committed. The case has drawn significant attention, and the community will be watching to see how the court handles the charges against both Main and Zubrzcki.
