Convicted Felon Arrested in Gainesville Drug Bust After Deputies Find Cocaine, Meth, and Ammunition

Gainesville, FL – A routine welfare check early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of a wanted convicted felon after deputies in Alachua County discovered a significant quantity of drugs, paraphernalia, and ammunition inside a vehicle parked near a local hotel.

Deputies Respond to Possible Medical Emergency

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around dawn on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, near the Baymont Inn and Suites on NW 4th Boulevard. Deputy I. Minck was on patrol when he noticed a man slumped over inside a blue Honda, with the vehicle’s door open.

Believing the individual could be experiencing a medical emergency, the deputy approached the car to check on the driver’s condition. As contact was made, the man appeared disoriented and showed signs consistent with being under the influence of drugs.

Burnt Glass Pipe Raises Immediate Concern

While speaking with the individual, deputies reportedly observed a burnt glass pipe inside the vehicle, prompting further investigation. The man was detained for safety reasons as deputies assessed the situation.

The suspect was later identified as 30-year-old Jaccob Haggard. Deputies noted behavior and physical indicators that suggested recent drug use, leading them to conduct a search of the vehicle.

Large Quantity of Drugs and Paraphernalia Discovered

During the search, deputies allegedly uncovered a substantial amount of illegal substances and drug-related equipment, including:

  • More than 9 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately 4 grams of methamphetamine
  • Marijuana
  • Multiple narcotic pipes
  • Hypodermic needles
  • Digital scales
  • Several cell phones
  • Three live rounds of ammunition

Investigators believe the presence of scales, multiple phones, and packaged narcotics is consistent with drug distribution activity, rather than personal use.

Records Check Reveals Outstanding Tennessee Warrants

A subsequent records check revealed that Haggard is a convicted felon who was actively wanted out of Tennessee. Authorities confirmed he had multiple outstanding warrants, including charges related to drug manufacturing and false reporting.

Because of his felony status, the discovery of ammunition also raises additional legal concerns under state and federal law.

New Florida Charges Filed

In addition to the Tennessee warrants, Haggard now faces several new felony and misdemeanor charges in Florida, including:

  • Possession of cocaine with intent to sell
  • Possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell
  • Possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
  • Possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Further charges may be added as the case continues to be reviewed by prosecutors.

Arrest Made Without Incident

Deputies reported that Haggard was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Alachua County Jail. Authorities did not report any injuries to deputies or the suspect during the arrest.

The sheriff’s office has not released information regarding bond status or extradition timing related to the Tennessee warrants.

Community Safety and Awareness

Law enforcement officials emphasize that welfare checks, even those initially intended as medical assistance calls, often uncover serious public safety risks. Drugs, weapons, and impaired driving can pose dangers not only to suspects but also to nearby residents, hotel guests, and passing motorists.

The sheriff’s office continues to encourage the public to report suspicious activity and to call for help when someone appears to be in distress, as early intervention can prevent larger incidents.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation remains active as authorities coordinate with Tennessee law enforcement agencies regarding Haggard’s outstanding warrants. Evidence collected from the vehicle will be analyzed as part of the ongoing case.

Anyone with additional information related to this incident is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
