In this country, there are many families with low incomes that suffer from the high cost of living and inflation. FFESP

American citizens’ low income
The United States is dealing with an increase in the number of people suffering from economic issues everyday. So, the government has been offering many aids for people who cannot afford basic needs, but they need to know what citizens are the ones having a hard time at home.
To obtain this data, the government uses a poverty guideline which establishes the minimum level of income in each family and citizen needs for basic needs such as food, medic aid, rent or mortgage, etc.
Who indicates this limit? The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the one in charge of this matter. This limit varies every year because it needs to be taken into account the number of members of each family. For example, someone who lives alone doesn’t need the same things as a family with two kids. It is also important the place they live to know the cost of living they are dealing with.
Poverty numbers in the U.S. in 2025
The HHS has collected some data for this 2025 year to know what’s the situation of American citizens in different places.
It has been concluded that if someone’s income is lower than $15,650 per year it will be considered part of the lower income group. Regarding families, a family of four members will be part of the lower income group if the income is less than $32,150 per year.
This will be applied in every state with the exception of Hawaii and Alaska due to their high cost of living, whose measures of poverty are higher too.
Economic aid programs
You should know not every program is based on the previously mentioned limits of income, sometimes citizens who aren’t considered poor, but have economic difficulties, can have access to these benefits.
If you are interested in applying for economic aid, you need to know there are many State and Federal programs for American citizens with lower income. Some of these economic benefits are: Medicaid (free or cheap health insurance), SNAP (aid to buy food) or WIC (support for pregnant women and children).

This benefit is only available for citizens from California and it offers $725 per month for a specific amount of time. Families with lower income are the ones who could be beneficiaries and mostly if they have children.
