SNAP is coming in June and it’s for all eligible families.

More than 4 million families across the country will be able to receive up to $975 this month, essential to ensure fresh and healthy food for those families. But be careful, there are things you need to keep in mind even if you keep receiving your payment every month, it’s really important to know the schedule! Want to know more? Here we go.

What is SNAP?

SNAP is one of the most important state programs in the United States.

Short for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, this payment helps keep millions of families every month with their fridge full of healthy and fresh food, something especially notable considering that 11.1% of the country’s families (equivalent to 36.8 million people) live every day below the poverty line according to 2023 data.

So, this monthly payment ensures that at least 4 million families can eat with dignity.

How does it work?

Very easy, you no longer need to carry checks, just your EBT card. These cards work like a common debit card, and it’s where the program (which operates at the state level, meaning it depends on each state) deposits your check every month, and you won’t feel watched at the grocery store because you simply pay in those stores that are part of this program. So, as you can see, everything works directly!

How much do families receive?

It all depends on how many people are in a family, in the case of the maximum amount, it’s $975 if the family has four members, but, as we said, you have to make sure what amount your state offers, since some states offer more and others less.

Factors that can alter your check

This program takes very seriously that the benefits reach the families that truly need those checks, so, besides the state of residence, your income and other types of benefits you receive can affect the final amount.

So, check your approval letter or consult your account in the official SNAP app to know exactly how much you’re entitled to each month.

SNAP payments in June

Each state has a different schedule to deliver these benefits. In states like California and Texas, payments are made between the 1st and the 10th of June, according to the last digit of your case number. Other states, like New York, divide the payments into two parts: one at the beginning of the month and another in the middle.

How to know? We repeat: through your SNAP app, this way you can perfectly plan your shopping and never feel like you’re in a tight spot.

What can you spend the SNAP check on?

As we said, the SNAP payment is intended exclusively for the purchase of food in supermarkets, farmers markets and authorized stores that offer fresh and (mostly) healthy products. It’s completely prohibited to use it to buy alcohol, tobacco, cleaning or hygiene products.

And of course, takeout food is not included in SNAP, although in some stores you can buy prepared food ready to eat.

Our recommendations

To ensure you receive the full check, keep your information up to date with your local SNAP office. If your income or the number of people in your household has changed, report it immediately to avoid delays or unexpected adjustments, and if the day comes when you no longer need it, renounce it and inform SNAP so another family can make use of it.

And above all, before you go shopping, check your balance so you don’t get any surprises at the checkout! Let’s go shopping!
