Chicago, IL – Stormy conditions are expected to persist across northern Illinois through Tuesday, with forecasters anticipating a significant shift to cooler, drier weather by midweek.
Storm Chances Early in the Week
The U.S. National Weather Service Chicago reports that occasional showers and heavy thunderstorms are likely on Monday and Tuesday, with the highest storm potential Monday night northwest of Interstate 55. On Tuesday, storms are expected mainly southeast of I-55 during the morning hours.
Daytime highs will range from the low 80s near Lake Michigan to the upper 80s inland, while overnight lows will stay between the upper 60s and low 70s.
Midweek Cooldown Approaches
By Wednesday, a frontal system is forecast to push through the region, ending rain chances and bringing less humid air. According to the National Weather Service Chicago, high temperatures will fall into the low-to-mid 80s, with lakefront areas holding in the upper 70s. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the low 60s, marking one of the coolest nights in several weeks.
Late Week Sunshine and Comfort
Thursday’s forecast calls for plenty of sunshine, low humidity, and highs in the low-to-mid 80s, offering a welcome break from the muggy conditions that dominated much of early August.
Safety Precautions for Residents
The National Weather Service urges residents to remain alert for changing weather conditions over the next two days. Localized downpours could result in brief flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Outdoor plans early in the week should be flexible, while midweek and late-week activities will likely enjoy more favorable weather.
