Charleston Weather Shift: Thunderstorms Thursday, Dry Relief by Friday

West Virginia is still getting wet as another round of heavy rain and storms comes in Thursday. This increases the chance of flooding in some areas and travel delays until Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Charleston says that it will stay hot into Thursday, and there will be storms across the country in the afternoon, with some dumping very heavy rain. On Friday, a cold front will move through the area and help push the rain out. This will slowly bring cooler, drier air into the area.

Highs may get up to the low 90s Thursday in the lowlands from Huntington to Parkersburg. By Saturday, they will be back in the 80s. By Friday night, temperatures will have dropped from the mid-70s to the 60s, which will be felt more quickly in mountain towns like Elkins and Beckley. It is also likely to fog up in the valleys early Thursday and Friday mornings.

People traveling should watch out for puddles on the roads, especially in cities, and stay away from routes that are likely to flood. People are being told to charge their electronics before the power goes out and to keep outdoor things safe.

The good news is that the weekend looks a lot better. Saturday and Sunday will be sunny, and the mild temperatures and low humidity make it a great day to plan to be outside.
