The high school basketball season in Central Florida is heating up as we enter the final stretch of the regular season. Many talented players have stepped up this week, and it’s time to recognize those who have made the biggest impact. The Player of the Week nominees are based on performances during Week 10 of the 2024-25 season (January 20-25, 2025).

This week’s list includes standout players from multiple Central Florida schools who had impressive performances in their games. Here’s a look at the nominees:

  1. Jayshlynn Vega – Central Pointe Christian Academy Senior guard Jayshlynn Vega had a spectacular game, scoring 22 points to lead her team, Central Pointe Christian Academy, to a 59-44 victory over Westside (Anderson, S.C.). Vega’s performance was a key factor in her team’s success.
  2. Alex Wolsonovich – Bishop Moore Junior Alex Wolsonovich was on fire in Bishop Moore’s 70-43 win against Fort Pierce Central. She scored 23 points, including five 3-pointers, and also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists. Her all-around game made her one of the standout players of the week.
  3. Saniyah Hall – Montverde Academy Saniyah Hall, a 6-foot-2 junior, scored 21 points, grabbed four rebounds, and contributed two assists to help Montverde Academy defeat Legion Prep Academy (Dallas) 61-45. As one of the top players in the area, Hall continues to show her skills on the court.
  4. Heaven Sims – Winter Springs Senior Heaven Sims had two big games this week. First, she scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and added six assists in a dominant 83-44 win over University High (Orange City). Later in the week, Sims earned a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds, leading Winter Springs to a 55-26 victory over Hagerty.
  5. Serene Exalant – Timber Creek Senior Serene Exalant had a double-double performance, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She also added six assists and five steals, helping Timber Creek secure a 64-36 win over Horizon. Exalant’s defense and offense made her a key player in the victory.
  6. Sienna Astorino – Horizon Horizon senior Sienna Astorino played a big role in her team’s 61-54 win over Edgewater, scoring 16 points and adding seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
  7. Tychelle Gordon – East Ridge East Ridge senior Tychelle Gordon had a strong performance with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks, leading her team to a hard-fought 38-36 victory over Lake Minneola. Her inside presence made a big difference in the game.
  8. Grace Jervis – Cornerstone Charter Senior Grace Jervis helped Cornerstone Charter defeat Mount Dora 52-34, scoring 21 points in the process. Her consistent scoring was key to the Ducks’ success this week.
  9. Ella Cochrane – South Lake South Lake junior Ella Cochrane scored 16 points to help her team earn a close 39-38 win over Hope Academy. Cochrane’s efforts were crucial to the Eagles’ success in a tightly contested game.
  10. Rowan Duberke – Winter Park Freshman Rowan Duberke had a career-high 16 points, including four 3-pointers, in Winter Park’s 48-40 win over East River. She also added four rebounds to help her team secure the win.
