New York City, NY: A person of interest in the brutal rape and beating of a woman in New York City has been arrested and is being charged with several crimes.
Police already knew that Kashaan Parks, 39, was the person they thought attacked, and they confirmed that he was in custody. Among the charges against him are rape, violence, sex abuse, and strangulation. His record includes two arrests, cops tell FOX 5 NY.
A horrifying video that was sent to several news sites shows a 45-year-old man being attacked from behind on the sidewalk at East 152nd Street and Third Avenue in the Melrose neighbourhood of the Bronx.
The attacker, who had a white towel over his face, pulls out a belt and puts it around the woman’s neck.
Police say the man raped the woman while pulling her to the ground and keeping her there until she passed out.

Assault, choking, sex abuse in the first degree, public lewdness in the first degree, and harassment in the first degree were some of the charges against him. Around 3 a.m. on May 1, the event took place near East 152nd Street and 3rd Avenue.
The man followed a 45-year-old woman and put a belt around her neck, police said. This made her lose consciousness.
The number of rapes has gone up 5.1% this year, according to the most recent data from the NYPD. There had been 511 reports of rapes in the city as of May 5.
