Cameron, TX – A late-night drug investigation in Cameron led to the arrest of a Calvert man after officers uncovered crack cocaine, a firearm and cash inside a vehicle, according to a police report released Monday. Authorities say the discovery highlights ongoing efforts to curb narcotics trafficking within the community.
Arrest follows vehicle contact during active drug investigation
Cameron Police Officers Jason Organ, Ben Howry and Detective Justin Anastasiades were conducting an investigation on Sunday, December 7, when they approached a suspicious vehicle in the 1000 block of West Fourth Street. During the encounter, officers identified 33-year-old Keelon Williams, a Calvert resident, and initiated a search connected to their narcotics investigation.
Police say the search led to the recovery of approximately two ounces of crack cocaine, marijuana and a stolen firearm believed to be linked to prior criminal activity. A significant amount of U.S. currency was also seized at the scene.
Suspect faces felony drug charge and multiple offenses
Williams was taken into custody and charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance weighing more than four grams but less than 200 grams, a first-degree felony in Texas. Authorities noted he may face additional charges pending further review of the seized weapon and cash.
Investigators added that Williams is a documented member of a criminal street gang, raising further concerns about possible trafficking networks operating in surrounding areas.
Police emphasize ongoing work to reduce narcotics activity
The Cameron Police Department stated that Sunday’s arrest is part of continued efforts to target drug distribution within the city. In a prepared statement, Police Chief Carlton Scott said:
“The Cameron Police Department remains committed to keeping narcotics off our streets and doing our very best to make our community a safer place to be.”
The department has conducted several similar operations in recent months, focusing on identifying suspicious activity, intercepting illegal drugs and removing unauthorized firearms from circulation.
Community impact and public safety context
Narcotics cases involving firearms significantly increase risks for both residents and officers. Law enforcement officials say targeting individuals connected to drug trafficking not only reduces local drug supply but also disrupts related criminal behavior, including theft, violence and gang activity.
The discovery of a stolen firearm in this investigation underscores concerns about weapons being circulated through illegal drug channels. Police also noted that large-scale drug distribution often contributes to community instability, prompting ongoing surveillance and proactive patrol strategies.
What comes next in the case
Williams was transported to jail following his arrest, and his charges will be forwarded to prosecutors for review. Additional testing of the recovered substances and firearm is expected to be completed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to local authorities as police continue prioritizing drug-related enforcement efforts to improve neighborhood safety.
