Good news for people who want to go to college. Six exciting new four-year degree programs at California’s community colleges are making a lot of great possibilities possible. With this growth, students can now choose from 39 great bachelor’s degrees. This makes college more hopeful and easier to get into than ever before.
The six new degrees teach people how to help people with their health or their law problems. Antelope Valley College teaches students how to take care of their lungs. College of the Siskiyous teaches students how to be great first responders. Cypress College and Oxnard College teach students how to keep their smiles bright with dental hygiene classes.
If you want to study law, you can become a paralegal at Santa Ana College. Victor Valley College also has a school in respiratory care.
“We’re excited to say that six new programs in high-demand fields have been approved,” said Aisha Lowe, executive vice chancellor for the Office of Equitable Student Learning, Experience, and Impact. “The Baccalaureate Degree Program makes higher education and skill development more accessible to more students by providing quality, low-cost options close to home.”
Getting Dreams Realized
Dream 2030 is the name of California’s big plan for its community schools. Adding more degrees isn’t the only thing this plan does. It’s about making sure that everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from, can get an education. They want all students who want to finish school to be able to get the help and resources they need by 2030.
Filling in the Gap
The UCLA Civil Rights Project did a study that says getting a bachelor’s degree at a community college can help people from different backgrounds get the same level of education. It’s becoming clear that community schools are a great way to make sure that everyone has the same chances to do well in school. You can read more about what they found here.
Better Pay and Jobs
You can make a lot more money if you get your bachelor’s degree from a community college. A study from UC Davis says that people who graduate from community college make twice as much as they did before they got their degree. Also, more than half of these graduates say they wouldn’t have gone for a bachelor’s if community college didn’t offer it.
A Rising Trend
That idea began in 2014, and in 2021, it was given the go-ahead to stay. It’s really cool that these degrees from community schools are different from degrees from other California’s big universities.
More and more people can now study close to home, save money, and still get a great education. The Baccalaureate Degree Program is a big step toward making it easier for people in California to learn and make more money.
In terms of the future, this move to give more four-year degrees at community schools is going to be a big deal. To make sure everyone has a good chance to succeed, we need to open doors for everyone. That being said, if you want to get a bachelor’s degree, the community college near you might be the place for you.
