California Parolee Drags Female Jogger by Ponytail in Attempted Beach Assault Police

Police say that earlier this week, a homeless man on parole for an attack crime grabbed a jogger by the hair on a beach near Los Angeles and tried to rape her.

The claimed event took place on the Ocean Front Walk in Santa Monica around 7:15 a.m. Someone who lives in nearby Venice Beach told 911 that a woman was being dragged on the ground by her hair.

Authorities say the suspect grabbed her hair from behind and threw her to the ground as she ran south on the beach path.

The woman and the suspect, who was named as 48-year-old Malcolm Jimmy Ward Jr., were found near some restrooms, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. Police say that several people saw the attack and stopped it.

The woman wasn’t hurt. Ward was out on parole at the time for assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police think Ward was trying to sexually attack the woman. He is being charged with kidnapping, assault with the plan to rape, and breaking his prison parole.

He is being held without bail.

A man was caught on surveillance cameras in New York City putting a looped belt around a woman’s neck, choking her, and dragging her away on a dark Bronx street. This alleged crime is similar to that event.

Kashaan Parks, 39, was arrested over the weekend on charges of assaulting the 45-year-old victim.
