Burlington Woman Turns Herself in for Killing a Guy in an Accident at US 70 and Us 131, Police Say

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A woman turned herself in at the Alamance County Detention Center for an October crash that killed someone.

At 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jeanette Alston turned herself in at the Alamance County Detention Center.

For involuntary manslaughter and aggravated felony death by car, she is being held without bond right now.

On Monday, she will go to court for the first time.

At 2:11 p.m. on October 25, Burlington police were called to the area of US 70 at North Church Street and Beaumont Avenue because of a serious accident.

EMS said that 57-year-old Jonathan L. Pickard was dead at the scene. Police say he was in one of the cars when it crashed. Two more people got hurt, but not badly.

According to the police, the crash was caused by the driver’s alcohol use.

The 21-year-old Azalea Angel Hooten from Burlington has been charged with murder by accident and speeding. She turned herself in and got a $25,000 bond that wasn’t backed by anything.
