The Travis County district attorney’s office says that the son of Buc-ee’s co-founder Don Wasek was found guilty on 21 counts of secretly recording party guests using the bathroom at his family’s Texas lake house.
Mitchell Wasek, 28, was charged with 21 counts of invasive visual recording by a grand jury on May 17. The charges were made in six different indictments.
The DA’s office said the charges are against Wasek because he is accused of secretly recording 13 people over almost two years.
Online records and The Austin-American Statesman say that Mitchell Wasek was caught in October 2023 and was first charged with 28 counts of invasive visual recording.
An affidavit received by the newspaper says that in May, guests at Wasek’s family’s house on Lake Travis saw a charging port for his camera hidden in a bathroom wall and told the police.
The camera was taken from the lake house and looked at by witnesses, who saw recordings of the guests “in various states of undress,” according to the Statesman.
The Statesman reported that property records and the police statement showed that the camera recorded 13 people in bathrooms at the lake house and two other places, including an Austin apartment and a home in Telluride, Colorado, that belonged to the Waseks.
People “using the toilet, showering, changing clothes, or everything” are said to be seen on the tapes.
Travis County District Attorney José Garza said, “The job of giving all the facts and evidence to a grand jury is something that the office takes very seriously.” “In this case, a group of independent Travis County community members heard the evidence and law and decided that Mr. Wasek’s conduct was unlawful.”
