Broward County, FL – A 46-year-old Florida man was taken into custody after authorities say he stalked his ex-girlfriend, allegedly placed a tracking device on her car, and appeared at her home and workplace while sending threatening text messages.
Officials say the case highlights the dangers of stalking, harassment, and misuse of tracking technology.
Suspect Allegedly Stalked Ex-Girlfriend
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, Brian Neilinger, 46, had previously dated and lived with the victim. After their recent breakup, Neilinger allegedly began harassing the woman repeatedly.
On Wednesday morning, the victim contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, reporting that Neilinger showed up at her home and damaged a neighbor’s mailbox. She also described receiving nonstop, threatening texts from Neilinger.
Confrontation Outside Home
The affidavit details that Neilinger allegedly banged on the victim’s door at 5 a.m., screaming and acting belligerently. When the victim’s new boyfriend confronted him, Neilinger sped away in his truck, striking the neighbor’s mailbox.
Authorities also reported that Neilinger showed up at the victim’s workplace, remaining there for several hours, according to law enforcement officials.
Alleged Use of Tracking Device
Detectives said the victim received alerts on her phone indicating a tracking device was following her. Neilinger reportedly referenced the device in text messages, writing, “I’m f—ed up still I don’t know if I’ll ever be normal … Maybe one day I will. The tracker comes in handy.”
Investigators were unable to locate a tracker on her car at the time of the arrest. Evidence suggested that Neilinger may have removed the device prior to police arrival.
Arrest and Additional Charges
During the arrest attempt, Neilinger allegedly tried to punch a deputy, leading officers to wrestle him to the ground. Deputies reported that Neilinger sustained several lacerations to his face during the altercation.
He has been charged with:
- Aggravated stalking
- Installing a tracking device without consent
- Resisting arrest
- Battery on a law enforcement officer
Neilinger is currently being held at the Broward County Jail on an $18,500 bond.
Authorities Warn About Stalking Risks
Officials stress that stalking and harassment—including the use of tracking devices—pose serious safety risks. Victims are urged to report suspicious activity immediately and take precautions to protect themselves, including documenting threats and contacting law enforcement.
This case underscores the need for public awareness about illegal tracking and stalking behaviors, which can escalate into dangerous confrontations.
