A guy has been detained in connection with the horrific beating of a lady during her bachelorette weekend in Dallas last week.
Canada Rinaldi, 27, was visiting Texas with friends when a stranger attacked her in the early hours of March 23, according to authorities. The Dallas Police Department identified the suspect as Trevon Woodards.
According to police, Woodards was arrested on Friday by the Bedford Police Department, which serves the suburbs of Dallas.
Rinaldi told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that she and her pals travelled from Oklahoma to host her bachelorette weekend in the city. Rinaldi’s wedding is in a month, and she currently has a concussion, a fractured nose, three broken teeth, and eight stitches in her face.
Kelly Peralta, Rinaldi’s fiancé’s aunt, told NBC DFW that the group was leaving a bar and headed across the street to catch an Uber when they were surprised by a man.
“We started walking across the street to get into the Uber, and that’s when he came from behind and he punched Canada, and she went straight down, and I turned to push him away, and that’s when he got me,” Peralta told me.
Following the assault, Peralta was left with a black eye.
Rinaldi’s GoFundMe page stated that the bride-to-be’s medical expenditures, including the ambulance and hospital stay, total more than $10,000. By Sunday, the crowdfunding campaign had raised about $20,000.
“We are so incredibly grateful for every single donation, share, and kind message,” her buddy posted on the page. “Your generosity and support mean the world and have brought so much comfort during such a difficult time.”
Court documents for Woodards in the case were not immediately available. According to inmate records, he remained in detention as of Sunday afternoon, and it is unknown whether he has obtained an attorney.
According to Dallas County court records, Woodards was charged with felony assault in September 2021 but pleaded guilty to a lesser misdemeanour.
According to a police report from the 2021 case, Woodards interfered with the arrest of a person wanted on felony warrants, wanting to “know what was going on.” Officers warned him three times to back up before Woodards grabbed one officer’s shirt and head and “began to eye gouge” him, according to the report.
According to the police report, officers shocked Woodards with a stun gun before arresting him.
He was sentenced to a year of community service and appears to have spent 10 days in jail in February for violating his probation, according to court documents.
