In May, his girlfriend’s body was found at a local dock. On Thursday, a man in Texas was arrested on suspicion of messing with the body.
A press statement said that James Hart, 51, was charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Giselle Salazar, 30, a mother of four who was found hanging by a rope at the League City dock on May 31.
Hart has not been charged with killing Salazar, according to court records.
In June, the League City Police Department told HuffPost that officers thought Salazar’s death was suspicious right away because of how her body was positioned. One of her arms was straight up with nothing supporting it, and police think Salazar died somewhere else with that arm raised before it became stiff.
We still don’t know how Salazar died. In an email to HuffPost on Friday, police said that the investigation is still going on and that the medical examiner’s office has not yet made its full report public.
When cops found Salazar’s body, they talked to a man who might have been her boyfriend. He became “upset” when the cops asked him questions, and for a short time he wouldn’t get out of his boat.
ABC station KTRK said in the past that Salazar and Hart had been living together on Hart’s boat at the Wharf Marina since March. The source said Hart “would never hurt Giselle” and that he only learned of Salazar’s death from the cops. It was hours before she was found dead that he last saw her getting off the boat to go to the bathroom.
Hart’s criminal court records did not name an attorney. He is being held on a $80,000 bond right now.
A GoFundMe set up to honor Salazar’s memory says that her brother Nathan Paz called her “the most charismatic person you could ever meet.” His sister has three kids, and Paz and his mother are taking care of them.
