Police say a 5-year-old boy died and another child was hurt when the bounce house they were in went flying during a baseball game in Maryland on Friday night.
Based on a news statement from Charles County, the bounce house flew onto the field at Waldorf’s Regency Furniture Stadium while the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball team was playing.
People from Charles County said that the bounce house went flying “about 15 to 20 feet up in the air” while a group of kids were inside it. The kids who were inside the bounce house fell before it hit the field, the news report said.
Medical professionals at the scene of the accident took care of the kids right away, with help from baseball team coaches and fans.
The 5-year-old boy was taken to a nearby children’s hospital but was later declared dead. The release says that another child was flown to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Due to the event, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs had to cancel their game for Saturday night.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have been affected and the people of Southern Maryland during this difficult time,” the team wrote on Facebook.
President of the Charles County Government Commission Reuben B. Collins II also sent his regrets and thanked the first responders.
Collins said, “We are very sorry for the children and their families’ loss during this difficult time.”
It’s about 28 miles south of Washington, DC, to find Waldorf.
